what is a good notebook computer?

I’m partial to toshiba or HP/ Just want basics- dvd tray, webcam use for facebook, utube, with speakers, as well as who would offer free microsoft office applications.. what is difference in processors, amd sempron, athlon, interl, Turion? also if on lap would chilmat be more for protecting legs or overheating unit? which would have good customer service

I’m always pleased with HP’s customer service, they are still happy to give me assistance sometimes even after 5 years i got my laptop(which i barely use anymore)

Intel processors are generally better than AMD’s, and are more expensive as a result. The new i5s are pretty good processors for laptops, if you want something cheaper, go for the i3, they will be fine as well.
AMD sempron are just pure garbage, they are so old it’s not even funny, AMD athlon x2 are fine if you are low on budget, Turion64 x2s are also fine.

the main bottleneck for laptop speeds nowadays are the hard drive, MAKE SURE you get a 7200rpm hard drive(as long as your budget allows), and not 5400 rpm ones. Those hard drive will cause your computer to run VERY slowly after a while.

if on lap, the laptop coolers is to protect the computer. Let’s say if you are using it on bed or something, laptop without those will overheat real soon, since your sheets or your clothing will block the air intake.
