Vista hard drive free space slowly decreases?

ok, so i just got a new dell computer with windows vista, and starting from last saturday i have not downloaded anything except manga which i download immediately after reading and a spyware removal program. However as the week passes by i always notice that the amount of free hard drive space keeps decreasing. It was at 420ish and now today it’s at 387. And even now every hour or two i can see that it decreases yet again. What accounts for this? And would it continue to suck the space up until i have nothing left?

i understand that temp files would take up space, but i delete the temps in the internet option periodically. And i don’t see how it can take up 23gigs of hard drive space >.<
o_o hmm i kinda understand the situation now, but is there any way to kinda...condense all my stuffs or get rid all these temp folders (which i cannot see located anywhere)?

If you use the Squoia View tool I linked to, it’ll give you a visual representation of all of the folders on your system as different colored rectangles. You can tell what folders are using the most space based on the size of the rectangles. Once you know what the folders are, you can figure out what uses those folders, and determine if that program is necessary, or if it has any method of managing how many temp files it creates.

A default install of Vista shouldn’t baloon up that quickly at all – unless there are files being created on the drive from some non-default source.

The two sources that are generally responsible for that sort of behavior are programs that are excessively logging, or applications that download large amounts of data.

You mentioned that you download Manga from the Internet. If you’re using the Internet a lot to view videos and images, your browser may simply be caching a lot of downloaded data in the background.

You can use a tool like Sequoia View: http://www.win.tue.nl/cgi-bin/usr/sequoia/download3.cgi to determine where all of your disk space is going.

You can use a tool like CCleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com/download to clear away common temporary files, but this if you’re seeing your disk usage increase by 20 gigs or more a day without downloading a LOT of stuff through something like BitTorrent or LimeWire, then this is just alleviating a symptom without addressing the real issue.
