Computer Virus Osama Bin Laden

Can computer viruses work when the computer is turned off?

I recently detected some adware on my computer after foolishly clicking a dud link advertising a photo of Osama bin Laden’s body that said it would “Leave you speechless” on Facebook. I ran a quick scan that picked up the adware and removed it, then I ran another to make sure. It was clear. However, I want to run a full scan and I don’t have time as yet. So I have totally shut down my computer until I have time for the full scan. But if there IS still adware or other malicious software, can it do it’s evil work while my PC is shut down? Thanks.

The adware may not be present in your PC, but still they probably have control over your browser’s cache. Clear your browser’s cache and change your account password. Nothing evil will happen

For the record, no, no antivirus runs when your PC is shutdown and neither do the viruses. So there is no need for any anti virus to run when the computer is switched off.
