How do I copy DVD movies to a computer/external hard drive?

I want to make my DVD collection digital so I can make them more portable. I have mostly DVD’s and some blu-rays. Is it possible to make my collection into a digital collection? I know video takes up a lot of space, so how much space does the average video take up?

Using DVD Ripper software can get this thing done

it can achieve two things:
1, Remove the copyright protection of the DVD.
2, Convert DVD to popular video formats such as avi,mp4, flv.

There are many DVD Rippers on the internet, you can google them and choose a good one. I always use Daniusoft DVD ripper,it is fast in speed.
