Windows 7 Desktop Gadgets Aren’t Working?

Gadgets on my desktop computer don’t work. It’s bin like this for quite a while but now I’ve got the time to do something about it. All gadgets don’t work, not just the downloaded ones, but the pre-loaded ones like news and clocks. I can put them on the desktop but they are blank. (usually with the red cross in the top left corner) If I put my cursor over the box it brings up the option to close it so I do to get rid of the box. I don’t remember what I did to stuff this up but can someone please help me out?

Maybe this will help. Go Control Panel, Programs, Programs And Features. In that pane on the left click Turn Windows Features On Or Off. Scroll down more towards the bottom and make sure Windows Gadget Platform is checked. If you can remember the last time they worked maybe you can use System Restore. If you have googled the problem and see things about Group Policy Editor you can not access that in Windows 7 Home Premium so do not bother with it. Check out the link below for another thing to try. I had the same problem, googled it, found these things, tried them all. Here is the rub. My gadgets started working again but for the life of me I do not know how. The only thing I did not try that I wrote was the System Restore. The gadgets I had worked but I found I could not install other gadgets and if I uninstalled working gadgets could not reinstall them. I could not pin point when they stopped working. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
