Computer Cpu Diagram

I got a atx 550w cooler master usp 100 and need help plugging in the chassis fan?

My boyfriend installed the mother board and everything in my computer, but didn’t plug in the chassis fan. I am not sure where to plug it in. He said to plug it in near the cpu fan, but Im so confused if anyone can explain this to me or show me a diagram of where it goes.

>Lucy this is a REAL easy one! Look at your cpu fan and follow the LEAD to the motherboard on the three wire connector there. See that he attached the cpu fan to the CPU_Fan connector? Its a four prong connector with a little white base. Now, all you have to do is find another one on your motherboard, there should be one near the back case side where the fan is located. I think the board you have is the Asus M5A78L-M LX -

I downloaded your motherboard manual from ASUS, open your motherboard manual to figure 1.5.4 on Page 1-7. Note that the cpu fan connector where it is connected is NUMBER 4. Right smack dab NEXT to No. 4 is ANOTHER fan connector! That is the one you are going to plug your case fan into ok?

Note that the connector from the fan only slides into to motherboard fan connector one way.

It is ok if you only have three wires but there are four prongs. The fourth wire is for a potentiometer which only comes on certain types of fans to regulate the speed. You don’t need the potentiometer and so there is no fourth wire for it, understand? It is also ok if you only have two wires because a simple fan only needs a hot wire (red) and a ground wire (black). Just plug it in and don’t worry about it and turn the machine on and it should take off and spin.

Note that this is a microATX motherboard so it doesn’t have as many case fan connectors as a full ATX board would have – normally there are at least 4 case fan connectors on a motherboard, but since this is the micro version, it only has two connectors, one of which has to go to the cpu fan.

If you have more than one case fan, you can buy an adapter that will go to a free power supply molex connector. On one side is a molex adapter and on the other side is a three or four pin case fan connector. Extra fans can be ganged together this way and also you can get what is called a Y splitter and connect two of those molex to case fan connectors for more additional case fans. Right now I assume you only have one case fan you are connecting.
