Computer Care Clinic

I am a precepting nurse in a major hospital outpatient department. I am in the process of orienting a nurse…?

It seems the nurse just isn’t picking up how to do the work and the computer documentation. What makes matters worse I knew her from before and she was displaced from her unit because it closed. We have a very fast paced high volume clinic which requires excellent clinical skills and computer skills. She lacks both. I told my charge nurse and emailed the nurse educator and director of nursing. I am afraid she will be angry at me and tell all mutual friends I backstabbed her but she is not competent to work at my site. I can’t let the care of patients suffer or give the other nurses more work to cover for her. What should I do? PS I have tried working closely with her one on one and she just doesn’t seem to understand.

Thank you for your attitude. People like you are what make people like me confident to go to a hospital. I take it she is trying? Perhaps in your comments you could explain her attitude is good but her skills and abilities are not a good fit. Try to facilitate her finding a better niche for all concerned.
