Acer Laptop With Hdmi Port

Connect laptop to my tv?

I have a acer laptop and windows xp. Both my laptop and my LCD tv have hdmi ports so I use the cable for hdmi. When I connect laptop with my tv and turn on the hdmi channel on the tv there is no signal (black screen). I’ve tried extending all 3 monitors in the display properties and pressed Fn+F5 key but nothing worked.
What should I do?

The Acer has 2 outputs VGA and Svideo, so how are you getting HDMI?
