window 7 for netbook background picture setting problem?

Okay so I have a Acer Netbook laptop that came with Windows 7, it took me forever to figure out just how to set a background picture. Which I had to download a wallpaper installer…now when I set my background only some pictures work and you can’t seem to make the ones you want fit…how can i do this?

Windows 7 Starter edition does not include wallpaper – which is the only missing item people complain about.
